DW-6900 Evangelion

Anime is no stranger to Japanese markets and there’s no surprise why the award winning series Evangelion has teamed up with G-Shock to release two movie editions. The red with orange accents DW-6900, which is reminiscent of Asuka the fiery red hair Unit-02 pilot. This particular model brands Asuka’s profile on one band and the numbers 02 followed by her name on the other. The second is black with purple accents DW-5600 and is designed with Unit 01 the “Test Type” in mind. The word Evangelion is printed in purple on one band and the words “Nerve, God’s In His Heaven, All’s Right With the World” is printed on the other.

DW-6900 Akira

Let’s go into details of these watches. First the Kenada model. It’s a bright red DW-6900FS model. If you look close, you even see it has a sparking glossy finish. The long strap shows the Capsule’s moto: “Good for Health, Bad for Education”. It is also written in Japanese as 健康優良不良少年. The bar code on the short strap got me puzzled for a while. It becomes clear if you watch closely in the scene where the Capsules are at the police station for interrogation. The police officer is holding Kaneda’s school pass and driver’s license. The number and bar code are from the driver’s licence. On top of the display you find 正 written. It means SHO. Sho is short for Shōtarō Kaneda, Kaneda’s full name. In Japan it is usual to mention the surname before the first name. There is a lot Japanese writing engraved on the back plate. Only part in English is “ADULTS ONLY”. The text is name and address of the Capsules hang out, the Harukiya Bar, based in a cellar of a building.

DW-6900H-4

Year: 1995
March 1995 is a memorable release date for Casio. In this month the “round standard model” was introduced

The look of the DW-6900H would probably make you think it’s a collaboration model. It’s pretty unusual that a basic model has drawings and text on the strap. For some time I have seen people asking many questions about the meaning of the text, written on the long strap. It says: “G-SHOCK is dedicated to the soul foot in motion”. According G-Shock Perfect Search (GPS), that has been redesigned very recently, the “Soul Foot” is a synonym to “Thrasher”. Yeah, right. Well, I’m not much into 90’s Skateboard terminology, but luckily the description can be found on the DW-6900H page on GPS. On top of the straps there are illustrations. On the buckle side a spider in a spider web, on the long strap a skull on a cross. Probably these illustrations are inspired by popular “thrasher” tattoos.

DW-6900FS UltraSeven

Tsuburaya Production design the model themselves to every details; from the watch it self to the box that it comes with. They choose to base this collaboration on Casio G-Shock DW-6900 model; the most famous model at that time. Now too though. All was base on a matte red resin band and bezel to mimic the Ultra Seven suit and so the all the line pattern on the suit was also put on the band of the watch. Both on the lower band and the upper band. Then they also include the EL back light of this model to pop up Ultra seven famous silhouettes which we could see when he the man himself transform into the action hero. They partnered up with Casio Japan and produced this model to only 2000 units only and all of it was only released in Japan.

DW-6900FL-4MJR

Limited Edition Metallic

This is one of my favorite classic DW-6900 G-Shocks. It belongs to the 'Metallic-G' edition from 2001.

This series consists among other models, 2 DW-6900FL models. One was a well known 'Snake Killer' DW-6900FL-6MJR, and another is this one. Not sure what to call this model so I nicknamed it "Brother of the Snake Killer"

The model is simply beautiful, IMO. It features metallic red/orange finish depending on of light that hits the watch at different angles.

The dial is actually very stealth in appearance. The dial insert is finished in glossy black, surrounding dial text (dark red text around the black edge circle of the dial) and the LCD color is exactly the same as on the Rusty/MIRB Frogman GW-200MS.

It features custom EL artwork, not sure what to make out of that one, though.  It was supposed to feature a well known Japanese cartoon character used extensively on surf and skate boards custom work. All I can see is a little funny looking man fondling a giant mushroom

The caseback also sports a custom spikey looking letter 'G', nothing like I've seen before.

Anyway, off to the pics...sorry for the dust guys.
